About the game

Three Kingdoms Survivors is a free browser action RPG made by a group of game fans, as a tribute to the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

What the game is

Three Kingdoms Survivors mixes two kinds of game we love. From survivor games it takes the endless hordes and skills that fire on their own, so you focus on moving, positioning and timing. From Diablo II it takes the depth: three skill trees per hero, synergies between skills, five colours of loot, uniques and sets, potions, waypoints and higher difficulties for the same acts.

You lead a hero of the Three Kingdoms through three acts: the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the battle at Hulao Pass against Lü Bu, and the flight through Changban with Cao Cao’s cavalry behind you. A run lasts about seven minutes per act, and your hero keeps their level, skills and items from run to run.

An original fan tribute

The game is an original work inspired by Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the 14th-century novel attributed to Luo Guanzhong, and by the history of the late Han dynasty. Characters such as Guan Yu, Zhao Yun and Lü Bu are historical and literary figures in the public domain.

All artwork, code, music and text in Three Kingdoms Survivors were made for this game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Koei Tecmo (Dynasty Warriors, Romance of the Three Kingdoms games) or any other publisher, and it does not use their assets.

Who makes it

3K Survivors is made by a small group of game fans who love two things: Diablo and the Three Kingdoms. We grew up with the novel, the stories of Guan Yu, Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang, and late-night Diablo II sessions, and wanted a game that brings them together. The game is developed in the open on the web: new heroes, enemies, balance changes and fixes arrive as updates without anything to download.

Ideas, bug reports and translations notes are always welcome. See the contact page.

Free to play, funded fairly

The full game, with six heroes, three acts and thirteen difficulties, is free. It is paid for by ads from Google on the website and in the game, and by the optional Warlord Edition: a one-time US$9.99 purchase that adds four more generals and removes all ads. There are no loot boxes, no energy timers and nothing that makes the free game worse.

Your saves stay with you

There is no account and no game server. Your heroes, items and settings are saved in your own browser’s local storage, and you can export a backup file at any time from Saves in the game. We never see your save data. Read the Privacy Policy for the full details, including how ads use cookies.

Where it runs

The game runs in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, with keyboard and mouse or touch controls. It is available in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Korean. After your first visit it can also run offline and be added to your home screen like an app.
